We congratulate Prime Minister Netanyahu on his recent victory in the Israeli elections. We trust the United States and Israel will continue the wonderful relationship they have shared since 1948 when the United Nations, led by the United States, approved the State of Israel. Since that time, the United States has always had Israel’s back in a United Nations that subsequently became hostile to the Israeli state. However, recent comments by the Obama Administration following Prime Minister Netanyahu’s election victory raise concerns. Is the Administration really throwing yet another close ally to the wolves? Israel is our Sister State; for years the United States and Israel have worked side by side to make this world a better place.

It is unconscionable for White House spokesperson Josh Earnest to ever imply, much less publicly say, the United States is reevaluating its position regarding our continuous defense of Israel in the United Nations. Even when there may be disagreements, families stick together. The Obama Administration as well as the Democratic Party must rethink their policy position and attitude towards Israel. It is in our shared interest for the United States and Israel to continue working towards a common goal.

A peace which merely halts the gunfire for a while is never peace. A surrender to demands of another may buy a temporary peace, but it is never permanent. Permanent peace in the region will never be possible until there is acknowledgement of Israel’s right to exist as a nation. Once that happens and the existential threat to Israel is gone, Israel will, I am sure, do right by its neighbors and its citizens. Prime Minister Netanyahu has said as much.
