U.S. Representative Van Taylor informed his supporters and the Republican Party that he is ending his re-election campaign for Texas’ 3rd congressional district. Congressman Taylor would have faced a May 24 runoff against former Collin County judge Keith Self, who came in second in the race. Based on Texas law, Judge Self becomes the Republican nominee upon Taylor’s anticipated withdrawal.

“We are praying for Van and his family,” said Collin County GOP Chairman Abraham George. “With his withdrawal from the race, the Republican Party fully supports Keith Self, and we look forward to rallying behind him to ensure that Congressional District 3 continues as a strong Republican District.” Congressman Taylor plans to serve the remainder of his term, which ends Jan. 3, 2023.
